RESUME

Inside an Acoustic Black Holes (ABH) structure whose thickness is tailored according to a power-law variation, the phase velocity of propagating bending waves gradually reduces alongside thickness thinning, thus producing pronounced energy focusing and energy dissipation with minimum damping treatment. Meanwhile the wave retarding phenomenon entitles the creation of subsonic regions inside the ABH indentation which shows impaired sound radiation. These ABH-specific features offer new possibilities for applications such as the design of light-weight structures, vibration and noise control, as well as energy harvesting. This talk summarizes some of the on-going activities undertaken by the speaker’s group. Topics cover the modelling of the ABH structures; double-layer compound ABH structures, ABH periodic structures; sound radiation of ABH structures and their topology optimization; as well as some application examples.
